FAQs

How is your soap made?  We use the cold-process method of soapmaking, using all natural ingredients to make each batch of soap.  Cold Process soapmaking is the act of mixing fixed oils ( i.e. Olive oil, Coconut oil, etc.) with an alkali (Sodium Hydroxide or Lye). The result is a chemical process called saponification, where the composition of the oils changes with the help of the lye to create a bar of soap. Since the cold process of soapmaking does not call for heating of essential oils and fixed oils (which can break down and hamper the effects of all natural oils and essential oils), cold process soapmaking yields a longer lasting, stronger-smelling, “sudsier” and more colorful bar of soap.

Why are your products palm oil free?  We love hiking.  We love swimming.  We love being outdoors.  And we want to make sure our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren can do the same.  Although palm oil itself is all natural, it is the most common vegetable oil used today, and can be found in products from soap to donuts.  Unfortunately, huge swaths of tropical forests and peatlands (carbon-rich swamps) in Asia are being cleared to make way for oil palm producing plantations.  This deforestation is a major cause of carbon emissions into the atmosphere that drives global warming.  In addition, the deforestation continues to shrink habitats for a multitude of endangered species, including orangutans, tigers, rhinoceros, and elephants.   All of Freedom Soap Company’s products are palm oil free.

Why are your products free from synthetic fragrances?  Synthetic fragrances are made up of chemicals, most of which are derived from petrochemicals, including benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a slew of other known toxins.  These toxic chemicals are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders, hormone activity disruption, obesity, diabetes and allergies. Freedom Soap Company uses only therapeutic grade essential oils that are beneficial to your mind, body and soul.

Why are your products free from artificial dyes and colors?  Artificial colors and dyes are generally made up of at least 25 different chemicals; for purple dyes, it can contain up to 50 different chemicals.  Unfortunately, many of these artificial colors and dyes, including Blue-1, Yellow-5 and Yellow-6 are linked to cancer, allergy-like hypersensitivity, hyperactivity in children, and adrenal gland and kidney tumors. Freedom Soap Company’s products are free from artificial colors and dyes.  We only use all natural colorants in our products, like bentonite clay and rose clay.

Why are your products free from parabens and other synthetic preservatives?  Many soap makers and manufacturers add chemical preservatives to their products, such as parabens, to prolong shelf life.  Studies have shown, however, that exposure to these chemical preservatives may lead to increased levels of estrogen in the human body and potentially increase the risk of cancer.  Freedom Soap Company never uses parabens or other chemical preservatives in its products.

What is the shelf life of your products?  Our non-soap products are naturally preserved (generally with Vitamin E), and we recommend using them within one year of purchase.  Our all natural, palm oil free soap will last longer, but will eventually start to lose its scent and may discolor.
