The foundation bar

Plain Jane isn't just our first bar. It's the foundation bar.

Every bar we make begins here—with the same carefully chosen oils and the same handcrafted recipe. Plain Jane simply stops before anything else is added.

No fragrance. No essential oils.

The shortest ingredient list in our collection, made for those who prefer to keep things simple.

Learn about Plain Jane

The bar should wear out. Not fall apart.

A well-made bar doesn't fall apart halfway through. It holds together, lathers to the very last sliver, and gives you more showers before it's time for another.

That's not luck. It's the recipe.

  • Holds its shape

Real oil-based soap, properly cured. No dissolving into mush after two showers.

  • Lathers to the end

Even the smallest sliver still works. Nothing wasted, more showers per bar.

  • No palm oil, and no plastic

No bottle required. Better ingredients, and a bar you can recycle to a silver.

Everything You Might Be Wondering.

What makes Plain Jane different from bar soap at the drugstore?

Many bars sold as "soap" are actually synthetic detergent bars. Plain Jane is a traditional cold-process soap made with real oils and handcrafted in small batches.

The difference is simple: real soap, thoughtfully made, with ingredients you can recognize.

Is there any lye left in the finished bar?

No.

Lye (sodium hydroxide) is an essential part of traditional soap making. During the saponification process, it reacts with the oils to create soap and naturally occurring glycerin.

By the time the bar is cured and ready to use, no lye remains.

Which soap is best for sensitive skin?

If you're looking for the simplest option we make, we recommend Plain Jane.

It contains no added fragrance or essential oils—just the original recipe every other Freedom Soap Co. bar begins with. The shortest ingredient list in our collection, made for people who prefer to keep things simple.

Why does a bar this size cost what it does?

Because a bar's value isn't just measured by its size.

Plain Jane is formulated to be firm, long-lasting, and to lather all the way to the final sliver. A well-made bar doesn't fall apart halfway through—it gives you more showers and less waste.

What will you never find in a Freedom Soap Co. bar?

Every ingredient we use is listed on the label—nothing hidden, ever.

Our soaps are made without:

  • Synthetic fragrances
  • Parabens
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
  • Palm oil
  • Petroleum-based ingredients
  • Synthetic colorants

We believe simple, transparent ingredients make better soap.

Why is it called Plain Jane?

Because that's exactly what it is.

Plain Jane is the original recipe behind every Freedom Soap Co. soap. Before essential oils, botanicals, or natural clays are added, every bar starts here.

Simple by design. Complete as it is.

Does Plain Jane still lather without fragrance?

Absolutely.

Lather comes from the soap itself—not from fragrance. Plain Jane uses the same carefully balanced blend of oils as every other bar we make, creating a rich, creamy lather and a clean rinse without anything added for scent.
